Bringing Home Baby Rotating Header Image

Oh boy…

“Actually, she’s a girl.”  I find myself correcting people a lot lately.  What I have come to discover is…people don’t look at the clothes a baby is in…they look at the top of the head.  So no matter how pink and frilly the outfit - Finley Mae’s bald head leads people to say “look how big HE’S getting.”  For the record, she probably does have the baldest head you’ve ever seen on a little girl.  And to be clear, it doesn’t bother me at all when people make the mistake because I have actually done that to other people’s babies!!

Finley or Lex Luther??

Finley or Lex Luther??

By the way - HELLO AGAIN!!  I know it has been a very long time since we have posted anything new.  I was convinced that no one was really interested in our blog anymore.  But a few of you have e-mailed me recently, wondering what happened to the updates, so I thought I would post a few pictures and catch you up on life in the Thompson household lately.

Finley Mae at 9-months-old

Finley Mae

Finley is now 10-months-old and my, oh my, do we have our hands full!!  It’s amazing how fast they can get around when they become mobile.  She isn’t walking yet, but she is crawling at a lightning fast pace.  One second she’s right in front of me, the next…she’s trying to put her hand in the toilet water.  Don’t laugh - that actually happened.  (since then we have invested in toilet lid locks - so no worries)  She loves to crawl to the patio door and look out the window and every once in awhile…a familiar looking baby will come to visit that she’ll try and kiss.

In addition to the crawling, she is also pulling herself up and walking around all of the furniture.  Now and again she will lose her balance and come crashing down, resulting in a lip quiver - or worse…a bruise.

Finley has also shown she has the ability to curl her tongue.

Apparently it is a genetic thing.   Either you can or can’t do it - and she can…all…the…time.  Seriously, half the day the girl crawls around with her tongue out.  It prompted Mike to say the other day “maybe her tongue is too long for her mouth…”

Also, it is amazing how vocal she has become.  I wish I had the ability to understand baby talk.  I often wonder what is going on inside that little head of hers as she is yelling at the top of her lungs, “Da bah da na na da.”  Huh?  “Bah ba da na na ma.”  Gotcha.

She is eating a lot of people food now.  She was recently introduced to mandarin oranges and gobbles them up faster than I can get them on the tray.  (Did your kids have a favorite food?  I would love to get her some variety, so let me know if you have a suggestion.)

Katelin Rae continues to be the greatest big sister ever.

She loves to pick up Finley and carry her around.  Katelin can still make Finley laugh louder than anyone else.  They had a blast on their first Halloween together.

I’m sorry it’s been so long since I posted anything.  Leave a comment if you are still interested in these updates.  I’ll post more often if I know there are people out there that still want to follow along in our baby adventure.

Thanks for checkin’ in and here’s a few more pics…

    Jennifer & Mike,
The baby blog is so great. Your girls are beautiful and the pics of Finley curling her tongue are to die for. My husband and I recently built our house ourselves and everyone enjoyed seeing the progress so much I kept updating everyone on each step and they loved it. I added little comments about pictures and everyone would laugh. You have great commentary to go with the pictures and it makes me laugh out loud. Keep up the great work on air and off.

I love reading the baby blog. It’s the only blog I read from wkbt (sorry). It’s fun to watch Finley grow. Children’s smiles are contagious and it’s always nice to have a happy story to read amongst all the gloom that seems to be in the news lately.

I love reading your blog and seeing the updates on the girls. Love the pics of Finley curling her tongue…too cute:) As far as favorite foods - at that age my boys loved sweet potatoes and squash (great at this time of year) I had been buying the baby food and thought why can’t I just make the “real” kind. I cooked it up in the steamer to make it soft enough and they both loved it. Now at 3 1/2 and 2 they can’t get enough spaghetti, they would eat it for every meal if I’d let ‘em. Please keep the blog going, I love to read about the updates.

Keep the blog coming I have really enjoyed reading them. Enjoy you and Bill in the mornings also. It is so funny when you tease him. My babies liked to eat cottage cheese and homemade applesauce at that age. They are 15 and 13 and still like to eat them.

What a joy to see the new blog, but I can’t let your misinformation stand unchallenged. It will be my goal to search for photographic evidence, but the truth is Finley’s mother was the baldest baby that ever lived. ;>) Jenny was nearly two before she had much hair to speak of…but now has the thickest, most beautiful hair around. We’ll watch to see if Fin Fin follows suit. Is anyone dismayed that Jen’s blog made it into print without any fact checking?

    Jen and Mike,

Thank you for your update. What beautiful girls you have. They grow so fast. Our baby girl just turned 4 in October and we are always amazed by her. I am lucky enough to be a daycare provider, so I get to spend every day with her, (and I love every minute). Keep up the blog, it is so nice to see your girls growing. I have been following your blog since you started it. Our little one enjoyed squash and pasta, (mac and cheese boxed or homemade is still one of her favorite dishes). Enjoy the holidays, it is such a magical time with little ones.

    Jen and Mike.

I really enjoy the blog, but also understand with work and family how hard it is to keep up with the blog. I enjoy reading about you bundles of joy… With this special holiday season, your love and bundles have now doubled, may there be nothing but peace, love and happiness in your household.

I wasn’t sure if you were going to keep up with it for a while when the posts were getting farther apart, but I think it’s great to keep the blog going! Our daughter was part of the Gundersen Baby boom a couple months before Finely and I love being able to related to many of the same ups and downs that The Thompson family is going through! Jen, your pictures are fabulous and it’s great to see such beautiful pictures of your family. Keep up the great work…if you can!

I love the baby blog. I print out the pictures for my mom since she doesn’t have a computer. I am in Arizona for the winter and thought I would check on the little one. Boy has she grown. You have a great family. I miss watching you while we are down south. Thanks and keep the blog going
